TECHNOLOGY
Our proprietary technology, developed at and licensed from the National Cancer Institute (USA) is a platform that allows precise delivery of oncology therapeutics under the direct control of the treating Veterinarian. Our approach incorporates proven cancer therapeutics into a near-infrared activated liposome. In practice, a dog or cat receives an intravenous injection of our therapeutic. A veterinarian illuminates the tumor site, resulting in site-specific release in real-time. The result is more potent delivery of cancer therapeutics directly to the tumor, as defined by the clinician, with fewer systemic side effects.
Mast cell tumors are one of the most common and devastating tumor types in dogs, with few good therapeutic options. Our lead candidate encapsulates a proven therapeutic (chemotherapy) delivering this locally with targeted release of chemotherapy directly in the tumor microenvironment. This is combined with direct tumor cell killing effects driven by our liposomes.
In addition, we are building a comprehensive pipeline designed to deliver both small molecule and conventional chemotherapeutics, as well as immune stimulators. Our initial targets include mast cell tumors and melanomas, although combining our delivery platform with ultrasound enables release of therapeutics into deep-seated tumors.
We aim to partner with others to deliver their novel agents in a more precise manner, enabling us to accelerate the development of better veterinary therapies, which, over the long-term, may have implications for the treatment of cancer in humans.

Johnathan Ebben, MD, PhD is an oncology fellow at the University of Wisconsin. John is a physician-scientist, who is an expert in the development of novel cancer therapeutics and tumor immunology. John is a life-long dog owner. His first friend was a German shepherd mix, Max. Unfortunately, Max's time with us was cut short by cancer. John is dedicated to bringing better cancer therapeutics to our best friends and ultimately to improving outcomes for his human patients. John leverages his business experience as a biotech startup founder with his clinical expertise to bring Nano RED Vet's therapeutics to the patients that need them most.
Lucas Rodrigues, DVM, PhD is an experienced professional with solid scientific, clinical and operational background complemented by experience in multi-cultural environments and international business focused on cross-functional leadership of cohesive teams and competitive marketing positioning. He has extensive experience in clinical veterinary oncology, clinical trials and molecular biology acquired during his PhD and post-doctoral training at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Penn State University. Lucas’s prior work has been supported by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and other agencies, resulting in at least 10 peer-reviewed journal papers and 4 book chapters. He is a serial entrepreneur, founder of Estima Veterinary Hospital, Box4Dog and Fresh4Pet. Lucas devotes his clinical practice to helping dogs and cats achieve better outcomes and quality of life during cancer treatment. Nano RED Vet enables Lucas to realize his vision of providing better cancer care for the cats and dogs that need it.
